Preferences Dialog Box |
The preferences control several general aspects of the program.
The program will or will not prompt to save the project file on exit,
When reusing project or session files, the program will or will not prompt to preserve the names of the input, output, exception and processed folders.
This setting applies only to the master project XML Result report from which all other reports are produced. Barcode Director stores the barcode value in this report as the value of the Barcode tag.
If the barcode value contains (even one non printable character) binary data, then the entire value is stored in base64 format. The purpose of the Base64 representation is to allow any programs reading the XML file to extract the correct barcode value.
However, the Base64 representation is not human readable when viewing the file (as in Internet browser).
The purpose of this
option is to specify an additional text attribute with
the following characteristics.
Option |
What will the program do |
None |
No Text attribute will be added to the report. Only the Base64 representation will be available |
Skip Binary Character |
All printable characters will be included, but the binary characters will not be show |
Replace with "?" |
The binary characters will be replaced by a "?" character (e.g. field_xyz?) |
ASCII and Hex |
The binary characters will be replaced by a <NN> character sequence (e.g. field_xyz<0d>) |
If Barcode Director is deployed such that it reads files that were directly output by scanners or fax servers, then it becomes necessary to coordinate access to those files. Some scanners and fax servers append an image page to the file and then release it, expecting to access it again a little while later. Some scanners batch some number of pages and then append them all at once to the file. If Barcode Director grabs the file or moves it in the meantime, then the scanner or fax server may crash or stop running. This setting defines how long Barcode Director will wait after the time-last-modified of the file before it will lock the file.
The default is 5 minutes. You can reduce the time by experimenting with the scanner, and loading more pages in its feeder.
If the program is used with files that come from other applications, the delay can be reduced to zero minutes.
